About the Book

Seven years ago, Jasmine left everything she knew behind. Her mother had killed herself, her father was terminally ill, and she had broken Hagan, the only man who ever loved her. It was the perfect time to start over.

Except she never parted with any of it.

When a tragic incident forces her back into the past, she’ll have to decide if letting go is too high a price to pay for everything she want.

Review

If there is a book that would get you so glued to your seat for hours just to satisfy a curiosity or suspense it is A TIME TO PART. The book is a Christian novel comprising twenty-eight chapters. Each chapter is well-ordered with a series of events. It is amazing how every chapter plays its own roles in making up the book without an overlap that will cause a reader to wonder what particular idea the chapter is trying to deliver to the reader. It is a book that engages the writer in a personal dialogue and an uncontrollable urge to read on and on. Honestly, there is nothing that could even be considered as an insignificant error except the uncertainty of if Kojo was also sexually-abused by his father after Jasmine finds the letter their father left.

The author states in her notes that the novel is inspired by a story she heard about a child who is sexually abused by her father. She tells her mother about it but to save face, she keeps it to herself.

The main theme of the book is forgiveness though it focused on sexual abuse. Briefly, the book talks about a young girl who is sexually abused by her father. Her brother fails to stand by her and mother refuses to make it known to protect her marriage and eventually commits. Her father accuses her suitor of rape, which she could do nothing about. With heartache, she cuts ties with anything that has to do with her family. However, her past catches up to her seven years later as she finds herself in a deja vu with a young girl. In the end, her present becomes her mirrored past.

Main Characters

Jasmine Morrison: A young lady who is sexually abused by her own father, but it is disregarded by her mother to sustain her marriage, who eventually commits suicide. She lives a promiscuous life of one night stands to prove to herself and her late father that she was really free from him. She avoids any kind of commitments as her father ruins the life of the only man who loved her, which she spends almost her whole life correcting.

Kojo Morrison: The brother of Jasmine who lives with the guilt of not defending his sister when she needed him. He loses his pregnant wife to a gang of thieves and spends his time seeking for the perpetrators as a police officer and an angry husband. He also is unable to let go of the memory of the house-help he impregnates but leaves unconscious after trying to get rid of the baby.

Hagan: He travels on a scholarship abroad after Jasmine’s father accuses him of rape and ruins his medical opportunities. He returns after seven years as a successful doctor but is confronted with the past he is falsely accused of.

Doris: She becomes a successful teacher after she is lured by Kojo, her boss’ son and impregnated. She still carries her baby and delivers a baby girl.

Eva: Kojo’s wife, a staunch christian, who is murdered through eight months of her pregnancy after countless miscarriages.

Greg: An armed robber who kills Eva believing he is satisfying his fiance, Doris, desire.

Selase: She is a house-help who is sexually abused while her aunt and uncle receive money from her abuser, and is forced to accuse her boss.

DSP Ato: Pays to have sexual access to a little girl but will watch his sister’s husband take the blame.

Conclusion

Despite the pain and trauma, the characters were able to forgive all the bad they suffered. This teaches that despite everything, forgiveness is key and the ultimate. It may not be easy but that is what gives real peace of mind. This is a lesson I think the society needs to be imparted with.

Recommendation

This book will serve as a guide to any one who has experienced or is going through a sexual abuse. It teaches where the real content in life lies- forgiveness. I also highly recommend this book to parents, especially those with daughters.

About the Book

God expects His children to pray, not just because He wants them to, but that He will answer them. With a refreshing blend of sound scriptural exposition and practical anecdotes, the author of “When Men Stop Praying”, a classic piece on the essence of prayer; and “Christian Attitude Towards Death”, Apostle J.K Bentil shares with you in this insightful piece on “The Method of Prayer”. Follow him carefully and practice the divine principles outlined in this book and your prayer life will never be the same.

Review

I must definitely conclude that Justice Kojo Bentil is a writer of great insight with few but detailed words. When I reviewed his THE SWORD SHALL NOT DEPART FROM YOUR HOUSE, I mentioned that he wrote the book with little content but detailed information. I still stand on that after reading THE METHOD OF PRAYER.

The book consists of an introduction and eight methods of prayer, and again ends with a call to repentance. The introduction gives a Biblical reference to distinguish between the manner one should pray and what the Lord’s Prayer actually is and I quote:

“John 17 was when the Lord prayed for the church. Matthew 6 is more of the Lord teaching us the method of praying. It is the way to pray”.

The subsequent topics are drawn from what we commonly regard as The Lord’s Prayer. Stating the method of prayer these are the eight contents the book dwells on:

  1. Existence
  2. Praise
  3. Authority
  4. Will
  5. Provision
  6. Forgiveness
  7. Deliverance
  8. Thanksgiving

I’ll consider each method discussed as a chapter as they are independently discussed. Each chapter gives the reader a meaning of a line or two of the commonly known ‘Lord’s prayer.’ Since the writer emphasizes that it is the method of prayer, the book tackles that basically.

As I wrote earlier, the book is not bulky but the lessons it carries are. There isn’t much to say on the book. Justice’s books never give me much to write. In short, if all books where to be written as this, I’d always review it with simple one line sentences and I mean that humorously.

Conclusion

I must admit that this book has taught me a greater prayer pattern. Prayer is an important part of every Christian. Christian readers the right way to pray are outlined in this book.  Though there are many prayer books out there, I think this is a must read.

Recommendation

This book is suitable for anyone at all since it is simple to understand. However this book is most suitable for Christians, especially, those struggling with their prayer lives and I definitely give it thumbs up.

BETTER TO START AND SUCCEED THAN FAIL FOR NOT STARTING!

Many people are stuck in life because of fear- fear of the unknown, fear of not doing it right, fear of stepping out of their comfort zone, fear of being told no, fear of looking foolish, fear of being known, fear of starting, fear of public opinion, fear of being different, fear of not finishing well, fear of being insignificant, fear of failure, or worse, fear of Monday Morning. These fears are sometimes inevitable but conquerable.

In this blockbuster book, you will learn practical tools that will help you fearlessly and effortlessly talk, chalk and walk your dream as you step out to confront personal life challenges.

You will learn that…

  • When you take risks you put risk at risk!
  • The shortest road to success is failure.
  • Fear can make an ant out of a giant.
  • Ninety-nine percent of success is starting.
  • If you would not complete it, do not start it.
  • Not starting is starting not to start!
  • Fear is conquered by action.
  • Do not just try your best, let your best try you!
  • Fear is a thief.
  • Finishing is the future of starting.

Success is trapped in the dream you are afraid to start!

Review

Need I say much? Never has a book been so easy to read and review. In fact the blurb tells all about the book so I’m just going to delve straight to the chapters and my thoughts on the book.

Generally, the author speaks on fears that hinder a person from starting and how those fears cripple us, not exempting how to overcome those fears. To answer the question you probably have in mind about positive fears which prevent us from getting into messes. The author makes mention of that briefly in his introduction but his dwelling was on negative fears.

The table of contents is not merely made up of just topics in the book but actually brief overviews of the chapter which is plausible. Hence, a reader knows what the chapter is about before he or she even reads it. The book consists of an introduction, nine chapters and an appendix. The introduction gives a general overview of the book and the appendix is a conclusion and a few lessons. The nine chapters include:

  1. Understanding your fears
  2. Why we fear to start
  3. The challenges of starting
  4. A fresh start
  5. Perseverance is an assurance
  6. How to start afresh
  7. Conquering your fears
  8. The power of taking risks
  9. You can finish

I must commend Millionaire for such an explicit and simple way of writing. His book is easy to read and understand as his choices of words are simple and understandable to even the lay man. In fact, this book is for a lazy reader, since he summarizes each chapter of the book in bulleted principles to remember at the end of the chapter. No offense, but lazy readers, this book is made for you!

From the third point of the book which states that “fear can make an ant out of a giant” I think what the author really meant was “fear can make a giant out of an ant” since what fear does is to magnify little things. This and other insignificant errors were made in the book but I think they could be attributed to printing. As I stated, they are very insignificant, probably unnoticeable. Good job Millionaire E. Ford.

Conclusion

Fear should not be a hindrance to our goals. The only thing that could be hindering that big breakthrough is our fear. If we allow our fears, they’ll trample all over us and we will always find ourselves at the bottom.

Recommendation

I highly recommend this book to all those who have a hurdle of fear they badly to need to jump. But most importantly, the up and coming youth need to grasp it. This might be the book that will dare you to make that big business resolution!

About the Book

It began when I was seeking the face of God for my life partner. I was amazed at what He revealed to me. Growing up, I thought marriage was something you figure out  with your mind and use analytical means to settle with with someone . The God factor was not considered at all. This myopic ideology caused me over five years of wasted relationships.  The ordeal ended when i finally surrendered to God for His complete plan for my entire life. Marriage is too precious to toy with.

Not every love leads to marriage. Discover more as you read on. This book, “MAJOR REASONS WHY SINGLES DON’T  MARRY”, is a prophetic journey into knowing how to  completely surrender your status, ego, qualification and wealth for God’s ultimate plan and purpose for your relationship or marriage. God wants you to marry and enjoy it to the fullest. Your life is predestined. Everything about your life must be discovered in God. God created you and He has the blue print of your life. It pays to seek Him for what He has created you for. May you never go ahead of God and think you are in the will of God!

Review

The author, Solomon Nii Addo is a well-educated anointed and prolific Ghanaian writer. His in-depth knowledge about life and relationship is portrayed in his book. The use of scriptures to back each idea he puts out reflects how much he is anchored to God. His use of words and grammar should also be commended.

A feature I want to commend the author on is how he introduced the foundation of the book in the introduction and first chapter before delving into the theme of the book which is exactly as it is titled- MAJOR REASONS WHY SINGLES DON’T  MARRY. However, it would have been more explicitly explained, where only bible verses references were stated, if the author had expatiated them with more details.

The book outlines the typical modern society where marriage from God’s point of view is regarded by very few people, as well as the perception that each relationship based on love must definitely lead to marriage. Not exempting, sexual promiscuity is not considered as not being single. The author contradicts this by explaining that marriage is a major proof of love and that having sex with multiple partners does not make one single, though he or she may not be in any kind of relationship.

The book is made up of an introduction and two major chapters:

Introduction summarizes what love and its basis is, relating it to relationships, especially marriage. It also talks about other reasons why “others are married while others remain methuselahs in school of single-hood” four major ones that would be highlighted in chapter two.

Chapter One explains who a single is, what marriage is, with four reasons why marriage is the determiner of who a single is.

Chapter Two details four major reasons why singles don’t marry which include

  • The Error of Serendipity- Lack of Divine Direction.
  • The Error of Sexual Immorality- Strange Appetite for Immorality.
  • The Error of Repeated Hindrances- Lack of Favor
  • The Error of Wrong Timing- Lack of Divine Sensitivity

A conclusion would have crowned the book perfectly, as an introduction ushered the whole topic.

Conclusion

After reading the book, I could conclude that sexual immorality is the most important major reason why singles don’t marry based on how much the author dwelt on it. I must say that since the author wrote, mostly based on his experience, he displayed in-depth knowledge on the topic chosen.

Recommendation

If you need an insight into marriage, I would recommend this book. It is directed to all singles that have plans of getting married, hence suitable for the youth in today’s society.
